About Lea

As a feminist, queer & neurodivergent therapist, I bring a unique collection of lived experiences and empathy to my work with clients. I feel passionately about supporting queer, neurodivergent, chronically ill, and Latiné marginalized communities . Having spent some of my formative years in predominately Latine spaces, I have a passion for empowering Latine adults whilst maintaining reverence for culture with sensitivity.

A long time dream, I returned to Southern California in 2022 after many years in Texas. In my personal life, I enjoy listening to music on my vintage sound system, collecting plants, crystals, and tarot & oracle decks (witchiness, welcome!) - and eating really bomb pizza. I also spend a lot of time attempting to persuade my dog to cuddle with me.

Currently, much of my work includes helping LGBTQIA+ folks find healing from religious trauma. While I am not religious, having grown up (in-part)in Texas, I am intimately familiar with the power that religious communities can possess. I support clients of all faiths and am firmly grounded within a belief that spirituality and existentialism in many forms offer a meaningful form of support and healing.

In addition to my work with the queer and neurodivergent communities, I very much enjoy supporting Latiné women and gender non-conforming individuals, parents of neurodivergent children, women and femmes who live with chronic illness and medical trauma, and other therapists and mental health professionals. I also enjoy empowering folks to "find their voice" in the workplace, strengthen self advocacy, and take up space with authenticity.

While walking alongside my clients, I strive to help individuals identify and gain insight about who they are and how their beliefs were formed - specifically within the context of family of origin. I believe that inner awareness including but not limited to- identification of inner feelings, thoughts, and experiences is a crucial component of "the work" that is necessary for clients to liberate themselves from deep inner wounds.

As a positive consequence of internal growth, many of my clients report that greater understanding of relationship patterns, authentic self expression of needs, and boundary setting arise from within their inner resources.

Counseling is a deeply personal journey. I strive to create a warm, non-judgmental, and safe space where you, your story, and your journey are honored.

About Micaela

I completed my Master of Science in Counseling from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX and also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Arts & Humanities from the University of Texas at Dallas.

I also hold a Specialization in Affirmative Therapy for LGBT clients, being the first to earn such a specialization at SMU. This included coursework for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual (LGB) clients, training and education tailored for Transgender clients, and LGBT Couples & Families.

I believe each client brings their own distinct experiences to counseling. I intentionally work to be fully present in a therapeutic relationship that is safe, affirming and empathetic. I firmly hold that clients can benefit from having a space that is their own where they can share, explore and process inner experiences and are met with compassion and non-judgment.

As a queer, spiritual and Latiné woman, I understand the inherent joys and stressors that can come from intersecting identities, so much of my work focuses on creating balance within these spaces through an affirming, de-colonized and non-judgmental space where you can explore the many facets of you that you hold most dear.

In my free time, I enjoy growing her personal yoga and spiritual practices, getting out of doors, spend time with my dog and cats, and read books from English literature, mythology, poetry, trauma, to yoga philosophy.

*Please note that Micaela only sees adult clients (aged 18+) at this time. Additionally, all sessions are facilitated via a HIPAA compliant form of Telehealth that looks similar to Zoom or FaceTime.*
